STANDOutEDU proudly participates in the 7th Safer Gambling Week

Gambling can be defined as the act of risking a sum of money on the outcome of a game or event that is determined by chance

For the 7th year, the National Betting Authority is organising Safer Gambling Week, from 7 to 13 October 2024. This year the week will again feature a series of events focusing on prevention and protection from the harmful effects of betting and gambling.

For us at STANDOutEDU, issues related to addictions have always been a focal point and their prevention has always been a key concern of our work. For this reason, we have decided to support the efforts of the National Betting Authority by building our own small online campaign, inspired by our experiences and the material we have developed during the Gambling Freed Feed project.

Our relationship with gambling and betting and the Gambling Free Feed

Since its early years, our organisation has been involved in training and research activities related to addictions. But in mid-2022, for the first time, we started our involvement in the Gambling Free Feed project, which sparked a deeper responsibility to get involved, learn, build knowledge and pass on insights about gambling and betting.

Gambling Free Feed is a special project, which focuses on young people who are in one way or another actively involved in gambling and betting. Although throughout Europe, underage involvement in betting and gambling is illegal, it is too often identified as a common activity among teenagers. Involvement of minors in gambling activities carries a significant risk of gambling-related harms, with youth gambling addiction being the most common. For this reason, prevention and early intervention in this developmental process is particularly important, giving young people an active role in raising awareness and spreading the message of responsible gambling.

During the project we took a leading role in the process of collecting, analysing and presenting data on young people and gambling. We also conducted a comprehensive literature review, which contains, in addition to the others, several case studies, good practices and methods used in Cyprus, Finland, Spain and Portugal on the subject.

What to expect from us during the Campaign

Starting today and throughout the week we are committed to sharing with you important material, case studies, good practices, modern methods and tips on how to prevent and combat adolescent gambling addiction.

At the same time we encourage you to follow the National Betting Authority, as their events offer valuable insights on the controversial issue of gambling and gambling addiction.

Finally, as STANDOutEDU we aim to open a channel of communication with the local community, to invite you to learn more about gambling and addictions, our Gambling Free Feed project, the National Betting Authority and of course our organization. We look forward to another journey of lifelong learning through our various social networks.
