Houses 4 Autism

Supportive Houses As A Home Classroom For People With Autism To Build Their Independent Living

The Houses4Autism project develops the Houses4Autism Educational Toolkit, which includes a comprehensive Curriculum & Handbook and an innovative VR interactive game. This toolkit enhances the knowledge, skills, and key competencies of adult educators who train individuals with autism.

Through realistic simulations, the toolkit helps individuals with autism create supportive home environments and navigate everyday living situations, fostering their daily living skills. The goal is to enable these individuals to live independently, without relying on the support of parents, guardians, nurses, or carers.

General Objectives

  • GO1: To examine the current status of supportive housing for ASD individuals in the partner countries using desk research (through national reports, academic literature, official documents, reports, national and European statistics, etc.) and field research to assess the challenges, needs, and obstacles faced by individuals with autism when they live independently with minimal support.
  • GO2: To design and pilot-test the Houses4Autism Educational Toolkit for the professional development of adult educators to train individuals with autism to utilise their houses as home classrooms to teach them independent living skills.
  • GO3: To build a VR interactive game to enhance adult educators’ training of individuals with autism, allowing them to practise home redesign to support their disability and independent living skills through a secure and realistic environment simulation.
  • GO4: To sensitise decision-makers to the importance of supportive housing in fostering the independence of individuals with autism and encourage them to include such innovative initiatives in their policy agendas for improved policies and support services.
